Tommy Sowers

Professor, Duke University and CEO and Founder, SOLOpro.com

Dr. Tommy Sowers is the current CEO and founder of SOLOpro, a venture backed real estate marketplace.  SOLOpro offers a full 3% rebate to homebuyers as well as access to real estate agents who have unbundled their services.

In 2014 to 2015 Sowers taught at Duke University.  From 2012 to 2014, Sowers served as Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.   In 2012, Sowers was a management consultant at McKinsey & Co.  In 2010, Sowers ran for U.S. House in Missouri’s 8th Congressional District. 

In 2014, Sowers co-founded The Lincoln Awards: A Concert for Veterans & the Military Family and serves as the inaugural Chairman of the event in Washington D.C.  He also serves on the board of directors of Americans for the Arts.

Sowers attended Duke University on an ROTC scholarship.  Upon graduating in 1998, he served 11 years active duty in the U.S. Army, including two combat tours in Iraq as a Green Beret. 

Sowers earned his master’s and Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science on Rotary Scholarship.  He has previously taught government and politics courses at the United State Military Academy at West Point and at Missouri University of Science and Technology in his hometown of Rolla, Missouri.
